The second-hand marketplace Shoppers Voice Displeasure Over Size Modifications
Members of the platform have expressed outrage due to a modification that led to listings displaying inaccurate size information.
This online marketplace has updated its size classifications for women's and children's garments without notifying all shoppers about the modification.
Social Media Backlash
Many shoppers and sellers are expressing on platforms stating that platform listings now display a modified sizing category compared to what was initially listed due to the recalibration.
The platform stated the new system was more in line with similar services.
They have suggested members to examine their items and update the measurements by hand where appropriate, causing user dissatisfaction.
Sizing System Updates
Previously, the measurements included numerical and alphabetical indicators, like S/8 or M/10.
The updated approach includes a letter and a range like S/UK 8-10.
In some cases, the sizing has been recategorised - for example a size L was formerly size 12 but is now a UK 16-18.
User Accounts
Frankie Bridger, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling".
"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," the way the service now categorizes.
Stephanie Gallen, from Glasgow, said garments she listed on Vinted with size 14 labels were showing in the marketplace as larger sizing 20-22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they will likely be quite upset," she said.
Required Changes
Another shopper, based in Derby, stated she felt frustrated due to the update requiring manual adjustment the sizing for "all her products".
"For me this is particularly frustrating, because of my ongoing medical condition and selling on Vinted has been paramount after experiencing income reduction," she stated.
Marketplace Information
The service features exceeding 100 million shoppers, with 18 million British users.
It has emerged as a preferred choice versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.
This represents another occasion when a surprising modification on the platform has faced criticism: last year, the platform withdrew an update concerning shipment methods due to shopper criticism.
