Lando Norris Leads Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
Lando Norris has outperformed Oscar Piastri at all of the past five race weekends.
The McLaren driver just pipped team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the dying seconds of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the title advantage from his teammate by one point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, topped the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver during the running before the sprint shootout set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the championship fight, lying 36 points behind Norris, finished in 17th position as his Red Bull team followed a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to have an incident, though minor, when he lost control at the fourth corner during the early running.
Tsunoda spun out over the curbs on exit before spinning across the run-off area, and was fortunate to get away with just a light touch of the fence.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the final moments of the practice, spinning around through the quick descending corner before the final corner on to the pit straight.
The seven-time champion wrapped up in P19, just behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's car P3, 0.619 seconds slower than Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
