French officials have consented to begin intercepting migrant vessels in the English Channel, after an extended period of insistence from the United Kingdom.

This policy shift comes after the British leader wrote to the President asking him to back the initiative and saying there presently "lack any effective deterrent" in the Channel.

French maritime police will be allowed to stop the small boats at sea, but exclusively prior to they've collected their passengers, according to official statements.

French authorities have infrequently acted to stop the overcrowded boats leaving the shoreline because it is considered excessively high a danger to both officers and individuals.

"It is crucial that we deploy these methods this month... We have zero effective deterrent in the Channel."

Now, a French naval police representative states officers will start taking action at sea, with the objective of protecting human life.

Notably, the official excluded the use of nets to stop boats, which had previously been suggested as a possible method to disable the engines of the vessels.

The decision to intervene at all is a major advancement, coming after a short-lived change towards a stricter approach this summer, which ceased when the previous government official left government.

This was demonstrated in the summer month, in the run-up to a summit between the UK leader and President, when authorities were witnessed walking into the sea to damage the hulls of a vessel.

Now French authorities will again be allowed to stop boats prior to they collect migrant passengers from the coastal areas of northern France, however it's uncertain how the small boats will be stopped.

Powerful gusts are presently delaying the start of interceptions and the human trafficking gangs will be seeking methods to adjust to evade detection, as they have done so often in the past.

The Home Office and the Prime Minister's office have been contacted for response.
