Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Warriors Table

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a diverse cast of heroes, and a exciting storyline featuring celestial beings, demons, and dark forces growing in power within the city.

Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Revealed

The latest chapter concluded with a major cliffhanger and revealed the initial group of adventurers who will branch out from the primary party to begin their independent quest, apart from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table features the determined fighter (played by the voice actor), Thimble (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

Considering a large ensemble, it was obvious from the beginning that keeping everyone at the same party would be impossible.

This explains, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Prelude, weaving together the individual narratives before splitting into three distinct groups: Warriors, Schemers, and Explorers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who are drawn to a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven narrative style where peaceful solutions are scarce.

Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might appear out of place, but the events of the third episode make it clear why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the group has a clear idea where to proceed after a violent first encounter with the antagonists.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose demise started the narrative’s action—used the enemy for his selfish purposes, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, striking the rogue, and stealing all the enchanted items to dispose of.

The antagonist then settled his obligations and fled to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd close behind.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each adventurer has a specific drive to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as the companion and best friend, seeks vengeance.
  • Kattigan is familiar with the northern area and advises that it is a hostile environment.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having defied his family’s wishes to eliminate the fighter and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their reputation as important members in the powerful family could help the group access areas they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, The grateful character vowed a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his rescue and will now follow him everywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are sought by the powers that control Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • Thimble and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and The healer betrayed the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by the family.

This results in them few options but to journey toward the northern region in pursuit of the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

According to the latest episode’s Cooldown, we find out that the warrior group will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the participants to round up the Seekers and Strategists tables.

Fans can anticipate learning which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the story’s last Overture episode, streaming live on next week.
